Congo: Stories of Hope
IN the democratic republic of congo (drc), the maternal and child mortality rate remains amongst the highest in the world. since 2010, the usaid-funded integrated health program (ihp), in cooperation with the government of the drc, has been implementing high-impact interventions to end preventable deaths of mothers and newborns. 

 

BEATRICE'S STORY
BEATRICE WAS A SCHOOL TEACHER IN RURAL CONGO, UNTIL A DIFFICULT PREGNANCY LEFT HER WITH A DEBILITATING CONDITION. THANKS TO USAID'S INTERVENTION TO REPAIR HER FISTULA, BEATRICE IS NO LONGER IN PAIN, HAS RETURNED TO TEACHING AND HAS REGAINED CONTROL OF HER LIFE.

HELPING BABIES BREATHE
Helping babies breathe (HBB) is a simple but highly effective, low tech approach to neonatal resuscitation. HBB allows birth attendants to effectively manage newborn asphyxia within the 'golden minute' after birth.
